Almost eleven foods that I AM eating
Friday, January 22nd, 2010
One of the top viewed stories of 2009 from the NYT was this post. Apparently it took most folks 6-18 months to figure out what’s good for them since it was originally posted in June of 2008, but I’m proud to say I’ve been partaking of 9 of the 11 for many years.
So, there. Tara [...] -
The names have been changed to protect the innocent
Wednesday, January 20th, 2010
I didn’t have to work on Monday because of the MLK holiday, or for any other reason at the moment.
So while dancing into the wee hours of my funemployed Monday morning, I may have encouraged one or more friends to consider “slick-leave” in lieu of work. To the detriment of Greater Washington’s January productivity numbers, [...] -
Three things wrong with Michael Pollan’s Defense of Food
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010
Three year’s ago, I read this fantastic article by NYT’s Michael Pollan, in which he summed up his findings to lengthy research about what and how we should eat. Here’s what he said:
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
There are three things wrong with this approach:I’m fairly certain I must have a genetic deficiency of [...]

It’s like methadone
Sunday, January 17th, 2010
It’s 11:42. I haven’t posted today. I’m out dancing with friends, so I have to come up with an idea and write about it, using only the tools at hand in under 16 minutes.
Hmmmm…
My oldest and unhealthiest habit is a pseudo additction to Coke…-a-cola
I don’t drink it every day, but there are [...] -
Want to burn more calories? Be silly. Seriously.
Friday, January 15th, 2010
“Last year the government spent less on the Ministry of Silly Walks than it did on national defense.”
Typically, I don’t believe my posts will be of a political nature, but this one’s been on my mind for a while. For me, one of the most discouraging and disappointing aspects of the current debate on healthcare [...] -
Let the big booty girls put their hands in the air!
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010
About 10 years ago, my husband and I went to a hip-hop night at a huge dance club at the Luxor in Vegas. I’m not sure if it was one of these clubs, or if it’s since been replaced by one of these. At some point during the evening the DJ/MC called out:
“Let the big [...] -
The Trouble with Tired People
Monday, January 11th, 2010
So I had another high-energy, high-activity day. Yay!
And while I was on my BIG walk home earlier today, I was debating about whether or not I actually wanted to keep the trend going by trying a few inexpensive Exotic Dance classes, or Exoterobics thanks to today’s Living Social Deal of the Day.
My health, wellness [...] -
Lions, but no Tigers, and certainly no Bears
Friday, January 8th, 2010
I always laugh when I’m in a yoga class and the yoga instructor decides to do Simhasana, or Lion Pose. (As I get older, my eyes are getting bad, so when I read “simhasana” I see “simba-sana,” and I think of the Lion King.)
I guess I also laugh when I’m by myself. You can too. [...]

Yoga Cult? Ding, Dang, Dahn!
Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Okay so, I’m working on that eat more Indian food intention today, so for lunch I tried some Trader Joe’s shelf stable palak paneer (don’t recommend it, tasted stale, um like a shelf), TJ’s pav bhaji (pretty good, but spicy, and I’m a wimp with the spice) and the ever awesome frozen, just-microwave-it Jasmine rice, [...]

Back to the Mat – A Prescription for “Sitting Disease”
Thursday, December 31st, 2009
Yesterday I read this post and watched the interview with my friend Dr. Val Jones at Better Health and thought to myself, “Holy crap, I just thought my ass was fat. You mean, I’ve actually got a disease?!?!”
The solution should have been obvious, of course. So naturally, I sat down at the computer to [...]
